For many artists, creating is one of those things you always come back to. While life leads you down many different paths, opportunities to create can come and go. This is true for Martie, who recently found her way back to art at our Davidson studio.
"Art was my favorite subject for as long as I can remember." In college, Martie majored in art education which launched her into a 35 year long career as an art teacher in Ohio. After retiring, she found herself wanting to do something entirely different. "For ten years, I worked in the juvenile court representing children caught up in custody cases." The career change ending when her family relocated to North Carolina.
Martie's daughter was instrumental in helping her find her way back to art. After gifting her classes at Holt School for Christmas, Martie enrolled in her first oil painting classes since college. "The first class reignited my passion for painting that had long been dormant."
Martie found joy in the camaraderie of being with others and instruction from teachers. "Desiree and Grant are fabulous teachers who make class so much fun! I felt like I never wanted to leave my Tuesday morning class, so I signed up for afternoons too."
Now that she has immersed herself in art again, her goal is to begin selling her art. In the next year she hopes to launch her website or Instagram, and we hope to share it with you too!
